| About the film:
James Pettis was once a respected professor and academic. But, all that changed when he wrote two books on Global Warming containing outrageous prophesies about the end of the world and the collapse of humanity. Ridiculed and dismissed by his piers, "Jimmy" has lost everything, except his convictions about what catastrophic dangers of imminent Global Warming. Seemingly at the end of his rope, Jimmy enters the Tampa Tribune with a bizarre demand. He claims to have started a deadly experiment to prove his theories and regain his stature in the Global Warming community. Six unsuspecting people have been lured into a STEAM ROOM. This steam room is his laboratory and these people are his lab rats. He will prove to the world that simply by turning up the heat, humanity collapses – and people will die unless his theories are printed on the front page of the next issue of the Tampa Tribune. Taking no chances, the Tribune calls the Tampa Police. Detective Jack Mancini arrives to negotiate with Jimmy. This begins an intellectual cat-and-mouse game with Jimmy and Detective Mancini. Immediately Jack deduces Jimmy is delusional, but parts of his story ring true and lives could be at stake that night. He delves deep into Jimmy’s psyche to decipher truth from the ranting of a man who resides at the mental ward of the local state hospital. Jimmy details the lives of the six subjects he’s lured to the hotel for a free weekend. Grant, the retired coach living the life on his boat. Frank, the abrasive young Italian always looking for his next sexual conquest. Christopher, the quiet intellect who works alone as an architect.And the women. Barbara, the ex-model who moved to Tampa for a fresh start from a wild and reckless life in New York City. Jessica, the abused, divorcee who dreams of finding true love. And Margaret. The writer who can’t finish her book until the pieces of her own fragile and lonely life have found some meaning. Jimmy details how each one of his victims will die in the steam shower in the next two hours, always chiding Jack that he has the ability to save them. Jack is caught in a deadly game where he risks the lives of people who may only exist in Jimmy’s mind. STEAM – a cautionary tale or the ranting of a delusional psychopath?
